After Effects / Badge

Badge

The one above is my version of are badge and i am slowly experimenting as i go but this has to be my foundation of my journey with After effects.

Tutorial on Youtube

What worked?
I really liked the style of the badge only because it is unique in its own way and i really had fun i recommend this to any person that whats to start with the basics like they say sometimes more is less.

What didn't work?
The hardest thing to do was the side of the banner's only because to give it that look of making it look like are band was the hardest thing but defiantly worth are try.

What next?
In the future i will be planning to do more of experiments in my after effects side and i am really surprised that i didn't try after effects last year but only practice makes perfect.

Final Videos

Mad Men / Breaking Bad /12Monkeys

Script - Breaking Bad

So for this script again we collaborated as are group to complete these exercises. The start of the scene is Walt looking at are eyeball. O.T.S Close up of the object.

M.S of me holding the eyeball hearing someone knock at the door capturing my attention. I then put the object down at it continues to have me in M.S till i walk to the door.

Because i was in the shot i had to imagine what this frame would look like could of shot it different ways. One having it me and Gail in are W.S or even Getting are Wide Lens and make the room space more suppressed.

O.T.S of me and gail in are M.S I really like how the space was used in this shot only cause it has more depth and i will defiantly use this type of shot and shoot it in the same way.

Continues shot of Me and Gail panning from left to right in are M.C.U. Because in the script my wife has just knocked on the door so the curiosity is starting to build.

Back to the W.S of me and gail i then ask her if she could take a seat. From there thats when we start to do the External reverse O.T.S shots.

External Reverse O.T.S of me and gail discussing why she is here. I really like the M.S because it shows a lot of body language and for the audience it keeps them guessing. Over the shoulder has to be are good way to use conversations in your work.

M.C.U She then gets papers that believe to be divorce papers and it is good to show the reactions of gail only to show that it is bad news. But making sure you don't get to close.

Reason why we shot it like this is to get as much reactions without close up's of me and Gail to me it was are good experience and i believe that we did are good job if i was to do this again i will make sure i nail it even more only because it was are team effort im happy with our script and video.

M.S of me and then slowly zooming in to catch my tears or how people say to make it look more personal. I like this ending shot to find are transaction that will be similar with my C.U.

Script - 12Monkeys

The start of the scene is are close up of peter. the reason why we shot it like this is to imitate as if he was dreaming. Waking up and hearing are voice next to him. slowly zooming out and panning into the next frame with gail.

Panning into are two shot of peter and gail on the bed talking to each other. I like the way we shot this because it Gives the audience are chance to understand what is going on in the scene. Having them upside down gives it balance
and i believe it is unique to start the scene like this.

Over the shoulder of peter and getting are two shot of gail in the frame in this part of the scene peter is frightened and helpless but it is okay because gail restrained.

He then gets up into are medium two shot of gail and peter he then walks to the bathroom and i pan across and follow him. The reason why i choose are pan is to focus on peter's movements. To keep the intensity into the shot.

After i panned the shot for the scene i finished when he had his back to the camera that gives me a chance to shoot the next part of the scene. so the screenshots above show are example from point A to B.

Medium Shot of Peter and having gail in the background talking to him. She is not in focus so this part of the scene is mainly for Peter. I really like this shot because it brings a lot of background and having gail there to fill it in.

Over the shoulder of gail. The purpose of this shot is to get gail in the frame talking to peter and Peter in focus.

External Over the shoulder conversation shot of Peter and Gail. We wanted to get most of our shots in M.S only because it still keeps it balanced and it speaks for itself in the list of angles

The shots then changes from an O.T.S of Peter to O.T.S of Gail which is External because it is outside of the Actors. I really like how low we shot this part only because it gives Peter power and makes him look bigger than he actually is.

Finished scene with are walk away shot. but then going from the previous screenshot of the O.T.S to are tilt and are pan.

Dances with wolves Film

Dances with Wolves - Suicide ride

From 0:00 to 1:36

In the following video of Dances with wolves i noticed that they have chosen this scene to have most of there subject in close ups and P.O.V and that means this is are very personal scene.

In the start of the scene there is a medium close up of his feet because it shows that the two unidentified doctors will be cutting his foot off. I find it to be are strong point to start with this because there is are reason of this is because the subject of this scene was about his foot.

This angle from the first one shows are slow zoom from the close up to his foot to are medium two shot of the two doctors. It was are good choice to not have their faces in because it would take the subject out. This continues shot is from the subject's point of view.

medium close up when they take his boot of this shot is followed to indicate that they have taken it off. I know that when you have off cuts of objects of the subject then it explains the reason to that shot.

from there the camera changes and it is now where the two doctors are. So then the shot changes from his point of view to the reactions of the subject. from the images that i have analysed you wouldn't tell if the subject was dead but because the camera's changed it was like he was unconscious.

close up where he awakens and looks into the camera as if he was looking at his feet. this shows are good story behind the camera and it gives the audience are good understand that he is looking down at his feet. They choose this shot to bring the subject into the frame.

Close up of the subject but the side of his face. he then starts to sit up interesting shot and gives an opportunity for the scene to run smooth into the next screenshot. So from this shot the camera then moves into an Over the shoulder external.

Camera is now behind the subject but still has his shoulder into the frame. this could mean two things his view looking out at everyone that is in the frame or an audience view where we know that he has got up and doesn't know where he is.

P.O.V seen through the characters eyes. Pan from point A (right) to B (Left) of the objects on the table. Having shots like this in your scenes can really explain for itself. This shot gives an opportunity to think of the situations that is going to happen.

Close up of the subject reacting to what he has seen in the next screenshot. He does not believe what has happen but in the screenshot is more of an conclusion.

from then it shows are P.O.V of the people outside and in the frame there is are man with one leg and are few people to fill in the frame. Because he has seen this man with one leg it gives both audience and subject an idea that his leg is going to get cut off.

Video Analasis #1

Breaking Bad: Gus and Hector's Final Scene

In this scene from the Breaking bad series i will be analysing the shot types and how they used them in the following screenshots below.

To start of the scene it shows are M.S of the three people in the frame. Gus open's the door and finds hector and his assistance in the room. The reason for this shot is to give the viewer are clear understanding on what is happening in this scene.

This is are continuous shot of the assistant moving hector around so he could look at Gus and that gives the opportunity for the cinematographer to track across to the left side which balances the frame and brings hector in are medium shot.

medium low shot of hector and his assistant in the frame. This shot is not usual only because it gives the audience are view as are third person.

This is are external over the shoulder wide shot of Gus talking to Hector. This gives time for Gus to explain why he is there.

Internal two man low  shot I really like this shot and this gives Hector are choice of action. making hector look really intimidating.

External over the shoulder two shot of Gus walking closer to hector with a chair. This gives the viewers are opportunity  to see how major the conversation is by Gus getting the seat and moving it closer to Hector.

As the scene progresses and the conversation gets more personal are internal medium close up of hector is made. this helps the audience connect more with his reactions.

Conversation between Hector and Gus there is an exact shot type on Gus to balance out the both objects in the frame. It gives it a sense of continuous situation.

Week 1 Moving Image History

History

In this video it shows the foundation of cinema and how basic it was in the late 1890s where there was basically one shot type and it was shot in wide shot. this is are continues shot from start to finish.

This time around the film has developed in a way that you could understand by watching the different situations that happen in this film. There is no dialog in the film but the way that it was shot shows that the music can go a long way. the film was shot on the stage and it makes it feel like you are the viewer in a theater.

It gives are good opportunity for cinematographers and directors when you choosing your shot types. In other words do you want to connect with the viewers as an audience (POV) or shooting in a way that they are the third person that's observing the film. For me personally it is strongly recommended that you connect with the audience to create are movement where they understand the film.

Camera Movement

Pan

When you pan you achieve are smooth movement where you have three points in are frame Point A is where you start from either left side or right side. The Middle of the frame being B and C is the last point. There are many ways that you can pan and some directors choose to follow the subject for example when you are sitting at the bus stop and you follow are car that drives past you.

Tilt

This shot type is one of my favourites because of how you could use the tilt as an Point of view of the subject or looking at the subject. For example Medium external over the shoulder shot of a school bully walking up to the subject. Then cutting to the bully's shoes tilting up to the top of the bully's face.

Dollytrack

Dolly track is a good technique that connects the audience more with the film or video. for this there are things you need to achieve to get this angle. Having Rails that you can move forward and back and from left to right.

Medium Close Up

Medium close up is a good length from the camera to the subject only because the closer you are to the subject the more personal it is. so when you are doing your shot list you have to make sure that you don't start with a close up shot. But building it up is are smart way to achieve are good flow.

Close Up

Close up shot gives are strong meaning to the subject in the film. With close up Joker looks like he is about to share some life experiences with batman and in that shot itself you could tell it is very personal. Close up is are shot that you use wisely and you need to make sure you know when to use it.

Long Shot

Long shot is are good technique to get everything you need in the frame. It says in the angle type itself. transactions from place to place it is always are must to have a long shot of the subject/area that you use to balance the scene.
